Re: How many of us are limited to one good rod?

If I were more fiscally responsible and used one rod, it would be a used medium action 8'6" 5wt. Probably a T&T Paradigm, LPS, an IM6, or a Scott G.

If I were to use just two rods it would be my...

Re: 3wt 9ft rod options for Nymphing

I have a good feeling about the Redington Hydrogen 3wts- they have a 9', 10', even an 11-footer! They look sweet.

Re: 3wt 9ft rod options for Nymphing

I somehow came across a San Fran Scott G 903 under $250 back in May. I'm not sure a better fly rod exists. Just incredible feel and accuracy at all distances, and surprisingly fast with a Superfine...

Re: Catching numbers of fish

It depends where and when you fish. If I could be on my favorite rivers during the best hatches every time, I would catch at least 10 every trip. I've been fishing mountain creeks for smaller...

Re: Addiction to fly rods? How many.

Apparently I have 12. I could get by with a 6wt and a 3wt, but that would be so boring!
5'10" 3wt
7'6" 4wt
7'7" 5wt
8' 3wt
8' 6wt
9' 3wt
9' 4wt

Re: my next rod

Most of the rods I get come and go. If you consider all the rods I sold for $100 more than j paid along with the ones I lost money on, I'm about even. I have a few rods that I will fish until either...

Re: my next rod

I just ended up with an incredible pair of fly rods I plan on using as often as I can while the fish are looking up. I got a Scott G 903(never even knew they made this rod) and a T&T Paradigm 904....

Re: New Allen Rods

Sorry to raise the USA debate! It wasn't so much a complaint as it was a praise for rod I have. I'm sure the overseas rods are fantastic. I work for a company that manufactures industry leading...

Tights

I just read a discussion on wearing knee pads while fishing. This made me think about tights, another wet wading accessory that might not be for everybody. I have been rocking running tights under...

Re: New Allen Rods

What happened to the whole made in USA rod thing they had going? I love the XA2 5wt I got. Just a very fishable action to it, nothing fancy but good quality.

Re: Scott G2 question

The G906 practically casts itself. Even with hoppers and salmonflies, but not so much with streamers. Wish I had a G904 or 844.

Re: Scott G2 question

Were you planning on fishing big rivers like the lower Clark Fork, Missouri, or Yellowstone? If so, the G2 5wt will fall short if it's windy. But it would make a great compliment to a 6wt or 7wt. I...

Re: Can't afford a Sage . . recommendations?

I have owned a few Sage rods, including the vaunted LL series and the SLT series. They are kind of boring for such nicely made rods.

If you want a fast rod for cheap, keep an eye out for a used...

Re: $200 Fly Rod Your Choice

One great option available right now is the Winston Passport and VSL, both on clearance for 150-180. I got the VSL 10' 7wt for $160 and I'm very impressed with it. For a slower rod, do yourself a...

Re: Lamson Konic Reel

I fished these reels for 4 years, the only problem has been the frame icing up in the winter. Sounds like you had bad luck, these are great reels!

Re: 10' rod advice

I think the Greys 10' 2wt would be perfect for PA. Small streams and spooky fish, a big 4wt might be too much.

Re: Scott A4 Reviews ?

I have the A4 10' 4wt. It is not my favorite rod to cast, but I fish it more than all my other rods combined. It can roll cast a lot of junk, and works for streamers and dries in a pinch. One of the...

Re: Rods you now regret selling...

My Echo Classic 8' 4wt was my first nice rod, and I didn't realize how nice it cast until I moved on to more expensive stuff. I also miss my Sage LL 4711, but I did make rent AND buy a Greys 6wt I...

Re: Rods you regret buying...

I had a Scott STS 9' 4wt, what a piece of garbage! I sold that to get the E2 9' 4wt. It was barely less of a 3oz hunk of rebar. I have a few Scotts that I can't imagine life without, so this was...

Re: Ideal length for a 3wt?

I use 3wt rods in 5'10", 7'9", 8', and 9'. I use the 9' the most, gets my fly above those Montana weeds. It also high-sticks and daps perfectly, almost like a tenkara. If I were to use one 3wt, it...

Re: 5wt for streamers?

As it is your line carrying the fly and not the rod, try increasing the mass of the line. I like 7wt GPX (7 1/2wt line) on my med FAST 6wt rod for the coneheads. Maybe try something like 6wt...

Re: One rod for Montana

I fish all our local rivers and creeks all the time, and I find myself casting 10-45 feet on all of them. If you can cast 100 feet, you probably can't mend it. I just tied a few Galloup streamers,...

Re: One rod for Montana

There are only a few "big" rivers in Montana. And you don't have to cast any farther on the Missouri than you do on Rock Creek.
