Re: Why Winston BIIIX on sale?

For whatever its worth, having many rods in the 5 or 6wt 9ft bracket, the 6wt 9ft Winston B3X is the best rod I have ever trout fished with.

Re: Another Fly Rod Advice Thread

To follow up on my previous post today, I see you can get those Crosswater rods on ebay for around $80.00 or less depending on whether they are 2 or 4 piece. Of course, the 4 piece is more...

Re: Another Fly Rod Advice Thread

I have posted this before, but, having many expensive fly rods, I have the Reddington 9ft in 5 and 6 weight Cross Water rods. The are good fishing rods and can be purchased with the reel, case and...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I have fished the LU 9ft 6wt for several years. It is not the lightest rod I have but I have enjoyed using it. It is well made, attractive and a good buy.

Sage Mod and Zxl compared

I see that Sage has come out with a new, moderate action rod, the Mod, which I have not seen. I wonder how it compares to a ZXL, 9ft 5wt, which I have fished for several years and consider to be one...

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

I think the main problem is that for the last fifty years or so, we have taught everyone that this is a "me" society and that it is OK to ignore others, morals or anything else as long "me" gets what...

Re: Fenwick Aetos Fly Rod

I have both the Fenwick and Greys rods in 9ft 5wt. They are the same with different colors, reel seats and guides. Each cost between $150 and $200. They are very nice casting rods. I bought the...

Quickline 9ft 4wt

I don't know if anyone is interested in an inexpensive but nice blank for a fly rod, but I recently built on a 9ft 4wt Quickline blank by PacBay. It came out a really nice rod. I had previously...

Re: Winston Nexus

I have a 9ft 6wt Nexus and started out with 6wt Gold. Recently, I loaded 6wt SA GPX and it seems to like it better and seems to cast better in close.

Re: private property along rivers

A sensible solution to the problem is to visit the landowner, find out what kind of liquor he likes, buy him a bottle of the best you can find, fish the stream, release the fish, and then thank him...

Re: High-End Rod Appeal

In response to S&S's initial post, I know I show my inexperience but, even though I have a Loomis NRX LP, Sage Zaxis, ZXL, several Winstons, and a Scott, I find I enjoy using the lowly Mystic Reaper...

Re: Tme to say good by..

I do not mean to beat "beard stories" to death, but my older brother grew a beard without my mother knowing about it. He went to see her and after a period of silence asked her if she liked it. She...

Re: Winston Nexus 9' 6wt

I don't claim to be a good caster or fly fisherman and sometimes have a hard time reconciling my perceptions of fly rods with those of "experts" who know a whole lot more about it than I do. Case in...

Re: Winston Nexus 9' 6wt

I agree with comeonnavs, I have the Nexus and old B2x in 9ft 6wt; the former really does everything one would expect of a 6wt but not with the "feel" of the old b2x. Its really hard to explain....

Re: Line for 9' 6wt Nexus

A month or so ago, I finished building that rod. I have fished it several times with Rio Gold 6wt. It works fine with it. Some might prefer SA GPX or Rio Grand but I don't think its necessary....

Re: Looking for used soft action rod

You might try the Redington Classic Trout. Its not expensive and has a moderate action and is available from places like Cabelas or Basspro.

Re: Loomis NRX LP 9' 5wt, recommended line

Thanks for the help. I will try Gold as I have it on my reels and Airflo Elite as I have a new spool I haven't tried before.

Loomis NRX LP 9' 5wt, recommended line

I am acquiring the above rod; the seller recommends SA GPX line. I have never used that line, having used Rio Gold on my other 9' 5wt rods, Sage ZXL & Zaxis, Winston B3X, Mystic Reaper. I have used...

Re: Winston BIIx & BII-MX 6wt

The B2x 9ft 6wt is one of my favorite rods if you don't overload it or try to cast it too far; the B2MX (I had the 5wt) was one of the most disagreeable rods I have ever fished with, even when I...

Re: I made the leap, could use some help

About thirty years ago, my seven year daughter got in my lap and said that my "smokers breath" stunk. That was enough; I haven't had a smoke since.

Best fly line for Orvis Helios 2 9ft 5wt

I am in the process of acquiring an Orvis H2 9ft 5wt tip flex, and would appreciate an opinion as to the best floating fly line for general trout fishing.
Thanks,

Re: Best way to clean up cork prior to sale

I have tried most of the tricks but the best I have found is to wet a paper towel with lacquer thinner and rub it until it is clean. I wash the cork in warm water and let it dry. I don't think the...

Welcome to the forum and the fun of fly fishing. Without disagreeing with any of the above recommendations, I suggest you look at Reddington's Crosswater beginner's kits. They come with rod, reel,...
