Re: Weed guards

How do you tie in those Metz weed guards? Also, can you use them on small streamers, let's say size 12?

Re: Whatcha readin'?

In addition to reading Stillness at Appomattox - a great book - I'm reading Dynamic Nymphing by George Daniel. This book is destined to be a classic. I think it's a must for anyone who is serious...

Re: What is wrong with my roll cast?

1. Hold the line against the rod handle, then release it at the end of the forward cast, or execute a downward haul. Both of these will insure that there's no slack in the line and that the rod is...

Re: Nymph fishing without indicators

I've been trying the Amnesia flouro butt material instead of indicators. The problem is that most of the time I can't see the Amnesia.

Re: Nymph fishing without indicators

I too believe there are times when an indicator is necessary, though whenever I can, I don't use one.

Re: I want to start tying

From my research, this seems to be the best book for beginners. It has a lot about
technique, and I love its split page format. You can stay on the fly recipe page and go to the technique page.

Re: I want to start tying

I just bought a vise for about a hundred bucks. Now, I have list of materials and tools I'll need. I'm up to another three hundred bucks, so I'm having second thoughts.

Re: Vise Short List what to pick

I think you can't go wrong with any of those vises.

I couldn't find a Renzetti Traveler for less that $194.00.

Re: Snake rolls, with no space behind you

I find it interesting that he seems to begin the snake roll by moving the rod in the direction he is going to cast. In Rio's Modern Spey Casting, Simon says to begin the cast by moving the rod in the...

Re: Spey weight for largemouth

I can only comment from my own experience. I have a 6/7 12.5' spey rod. I often use a Rage line (Scandi/Skagit hybrid), and feel that I'm limited to using flies - especially poppers - that are often...

Re: Spey weight for largemouth

I'm curious to see anglers cast big bass flies on most 5-weight spey lines.

Re: Spey weight for largemouth

Spey rods are longer than one-handed fly rods, so they (spey rods) are harder to land a fish with. Therefore, I like an 8-weight.

However, perhaps if I had a Skagit rod I'd like a 6- or 7-weight....

Re: Wading staffs ?

A good wading stick is a lot cheaper than taking a tumble and hurting yourself.

I like the Fishpond wading staff. It's very light.

Good advice about getting a ski pole. A lot of ski shops have...

Re: Spey weight for largemouth

I would definately go with at least an 8-weight, which is the weight you would ideally use with a single-hand rod. An 8-weight spey rod will make it easier for you to cast bigger flies, especially in...

I love my Orvis, waterproof backpack. I don't think you'll find one that will handle both waders and wading boots, that's why I bought Korkers.

Re: Rio's New Anti-Twist "Swivels"

Airflo is selling a similiar product, but you only have to buy one:

Spey Line Catalog (http://www.flyfishusa.com/lines/splines_home.html)

For ten bucks I'm going to take a shot.

Rio's New Anti-Twist "Swivels"

To reduce line twist I use aquatek plastic swivels between my leader and tippet.

This new product from Rio looks interesting, but pricey.

I might give it a try. Has anyone used it?
