Re: Able nipper, what kind of Zinger?

The guy behind the counter will tell you which one to get as soon as you hand over your credit card.

I think the brand they usually recommend is "Bazinger!!!"

Re: Amish and sustainability?

I am not from Northern America and know little of the local laws or customs you have there. I don't think it actually matters in this case: you've hit upon human nature.

I figure you alerted them...

Re: Say wot??? $89.95?

"You get what you pay for."

I bet the marketing guys are sitting in the corner toasting the bloke who came up with that one.

"Our product is not selling. Our costs make our product...

Re: Leader question...

Calling it a shock tippet is misleading because it does nothing to prevent shock. It's a bite tippet, to prevent bite-offs.

10' of straight 20lb is probably too long to cast effectively. Try 6'...

Re: Testing Kayaks for Flyakking

Yes, and it's great.

I've got a Pro Angler 14. I consider it ideal for fly fishing, whether I choose to stand or sit to cast.

I fish mainly in sheltered ocean waters.

Graeme

Re: Casting fatigue question

Try a shorter rod. An 8' 8wt is much easier to cast all day than a 9' 8wt.

Re: How can I tell if an old line is floating or intermediate?

If it doesn't float, it's an intermediate line.

Stating the bleeding obvious, but geez, it seems simple to me. Regardless of what it was sold as, if it sinks now .

Graeme

Re: Short Video Report - Louisiana Bull Reds and Big Black Drum

That's one tough rod. Looks like a heap of fun there.

Re: Have you ever been "spooled"

Seems to me the main recurring theme is "Nearly". It looks like most people decide to actually start fighting the fish once the loss of their line is a possibility.

That says to me that many...

Re: Demon line!

This curse has been visited upon me a few times now. I don't know who I taunted in a previous life, but I feel your pain.

Since I'm an "old hand" at it now, I can offer a technique that works....

Re: Wristwatches What You Wear And Why

Casio ProTrek.

Solar powered with triple sensor (temp, barometer and compass). WR200.

It never needs batteries, it lets me keep track of barometric changes on the water OR how high I've climbed...

Re: What's a substitute for Hy-Flote Leader Paste??

Do you think the dog might have taken a fly if you landed it nicely? They put up quite a fight on a 4wt. The Popovic Tennis ball fly is the go-to fly round here ...

(Only kidding - it's not the...

Thanks.

The exposure was made over a 10 minute timespan and it was f8 on large format film.

Re: That was too close!

I used to spend a lot of time photographing lightning for my photography business in outback Australia, but I always had a healthy respect for it. As soon as it got too close, I jumped in my car...

Re: Tfo mini mag 6-8

I've got both Mini Mags and love them to bits. Love 'em so much, I just bought a second 8-10wt version.

The 6-8 is really an 8wt or 9wt rod though. The sub-title on the label says 200 - 300gn, and...

Re: Why do you fly fish ?

Because I find it more challenging than any other form of fishing, and therefore, more rewarding when I land one.

Graeme

Re: Rods/reels you've sold and regretted- others that you gladly sent packing..

I've gladly kept nearly every item I've bought for fly fishing, but have not regretting selling my TFO BVK reels. Touted as being best new release at some such award, they made me think nothing else...

Re: Just curious, how many fly reels do you own?

N-1, where N = the number of reels I want.

M+15, where M = the number of reels my wife thinks I have.

If you count the two that showed up in the post today, it's 17, but you really shouldn't...

Re: Reel Idea...

A Solitude 4 would also fit the bill, but maybe taking it all the way to a 9 might be tough. Solitude have a "mid arbor" and a "large arbor" spool for their reels.

I've got a Solitude 5, which is...

Re: Winter Fishing in SOLITUDE

Nice work. Just you, the fish, the river and the bloke holding the camera ;)

Too cold for me, but I love that fact that you're out there and doing it.

Graeme
