You are going to enjoy the Helios as it has more lifting power than the BVK.. The Bvk's are a joy to cast just try not to lift the fish or they will break easily.

The handle is actually a light wood of some sort looks to have been done on a lathe or by hand? The reel foot has a 5 stamped on it.

I can not offer anything on the rod selection. As far as reels,the Nautilus is a spectacular reel,you can't go wrong. It is a preferred reel for Saltwater. As Frank mentioned you could get a Allen...

Just go to your near by fabric supply store and get a swath of Flannel and some Vlelcro straps. Works great.
