Re: Gar....

I caught a gar using a hook. I have only done it once and actually have only tried it once so I'm 1 for 1. I usually use rope flies. I was fishing for bluegill and saw a small gar swimming around...

Just got an Alpha 7/8 today in the mail. The gunmetal finish looks even better in person. The reel is super smooth while reeling forward and has a very pleasant drag sound in reverse. It is very...

Re: Anyone every catch one of these?

Just looked on Wikipedia because I was curious. The pumpkinseed is species Lepomis gibbosus and the orange spotted sunfish is Lepomis humilis. They do look similar but technically are different...

Re: Anyone every catch one of these?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm going to try and target them next season. This was more of a by-catch while fishing for gills and crappies. Guess a few were in the mix too :D

Re: Iowa Cicada

Yeah, Ive fished the cicada "hatch" there. I came out to Iowa from Utah actually. Only on rare occasions do you get an epic hatch with huge numbers of bugs. I can't remember any huge hatches in...

Iowa Cicada

Finally found a couple in my front yard one evening. Besides their racket they are pretty elusive.

Re: Gar....

I don't know much about the alligator gar but contrary to what has been said I find gar (in particular the short nose) to be very aggressive. The thing is you have to get the fly near them. ...
