Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

A short three weight and a nice four weight would be nice. I love my Winston WT 7'-6" three weight and Scott G 9' four weight.

Re: Bootfoot waders...

Just to be clear, the dry-plus bootfoot waders I'm taking about have an integral lace-up boot very similar to a normal wading boot, not the pull-on style that we see on the hunting waders. I was...

Bootfoot waders...

I only bought my first lightweight breathable waders ten years ago. Before that I wore my neoprene duck hunting waders in cold water, but most of the summer it was shorts and wading sandals. The...

Re: Who still uses a vest?

Now having experimented halfway through the summer I have settled on using the Simms pack to hold the bulk of my flies and gear, but leave it in the truck or boat while I wear my mesh vest. I tailor...

Re: Common Cents System not making sense to me

Thankfully, we now have the internet and forums such as this one to help put us in the ballpark. What I do when trying to match a line to rod is; 1) call the rod manufacturer and ask them what they...

Re: Radian 8ft 6" 4 wt

Not S&S, but I have a Radian. I called Scott, talked to local fly shops and experimented with various line. Bottom line, I really like the Rio Gold with mine. It loads nicely with a GPX WF line, but...

Re: Winston IM6 serial number 85000's ?

I remember trying my first graphite fly rods at a nice fly shop in downtown San Francisco in the spring of 1991. I tried four different rods, A Sage RPL, Sage LL, Scott PowRply (G series) and Winston...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

I've been in Montana 23 years and this was my first trip to the Mighty Mo, boy was I missing out. Most of the fisherman I know here in the Flathead try to hit it in early spring or late fall to miss...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

My first fish seemed like a monster to me, but my guide was not impressed. I thought it was 24" so he laid it against the tape he has glued to his gunnel to show me it was a measly 21". I only caught...

Re: Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

I didn't see much point, there was zero finesse or technique to the casting. I may as we'll have been fishing a worm and bobber off an old cane pole until you hook a fish, then a heavy deep sea rod...

Rods I used on recent Missouri River trip.

Last weekend I got to spend two days on the Mo and one fishing Rock Creek. The weather was very hot and had been mid ninties for more than a week prior, so fishing the lower section wasn't fishing...

Yeah, I can see you are well equipped with nine footers.

Re: Radian 8ft 6" 4 wt

My local shop carries and raves about the LP. It felt great in my hand. If I didn't already have two Scott G's to fill that medium action dry fly niche, I'd be all over getting an LP.

To the OP,...

Re: Radian 8ft 6" 4 wt

Not S&S, but I would give the G2 8'-8" four weight a try. I love my 9' four weight G and think the newer G-2 8-8 version would be great.

Re: felt sole controversy

Sorry I wasn't clear. I know they work well here, I've been using felt since I moved here 23 years ago and it works great. I was wondering if as long as I limit my fishing to this area, I wouldn't be...

Re: felt sole controversy

Honest question as I truly don't know; if I only fish western Montana trout waters, rivers and streams, are felt soles ok? That's what I always believed, so wasn't too concerned when wearing my felt...

Re: felt sole controversy

Over the winter I bought a pair of closeout 2013 Simms Guide boots with the rubber soles. I've always had felt and was nervous about the rubber soles but I like them so far.

Re: Who still uses a vest?

Looking good, still got the bandana thing going. :D. I'm going to use my new Simms pack as a carry everything kit in my drift boat or truck, and wear my mesh vest while on the river. I go pretty...

Who still uses a vest?

After a lifetime of using fishing vest my wife bought me one of those Simms over the shoulder-waist belt fishing packs for my birthday. I've used it a few times but kind of miss my vest. The pack is...

Re: Rio Gold question ???

Czando, I'm interested to hear how you came to chose the five weight Radian and six weight One. I'm also thinking about adding a six weight Radian or One to the Radian I already have. I was kind of...

Re: New Winston.....

Unless I get to visit the factory with my lab coat and watch the rod being manufactured from start to finish, then have the design engineer explain the process and how it is better than what they did...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

The thing my lighter weight G's doesn't do well is casting larger streamers, a faster action rod might do better with that. I have an Echo-3 six weight that is a great streamer rod.

Re: Scott vs. Winston

Thanks for clarifying, and great video btw! I think you're right, I have a Winston WT that is a pure dry fly rod, while my two Scott G's are much more versatile. After watching that video I want to...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

I like your answer, and agree you couldn't go wrong with either rod, though I wouldn't dis the Scott as a pure dry fly rod.
