Re: Montanna stream access

In Victor, MT a landowner put up a fence that restricts access to the Bitteroot.

The fence restricts access from a bridge. I thought that was illegal, yet the owner seems to be getting away with...

Pontoon (also for a dog) recommendation

I'm interested in buying an inflatable pontoon that I can use for stillwaters and that has enough room so I can take my large dog.

Any recommendations?

I'm leaning towards frameless, as I heard...

Re: First spey rod, choosing a line

I would consider an Airflo Rage line. It's a hybrid Scandi/Skagit line, so you can fish streamers as well as dry flies.

Also, how long is your spey rod? If it's not 14' or more I'd stay way from...

Cabelas American Dream Fly Rods Sale?

Cabelas was selling these fly rods for $300.00. Now they are discounting them for $129.00.

I'm interesting in buying another fly rod, so I'm wondering: Why so steep a discount?

Anyone ever...

Re: I can't roll cast

You might have too much slack in the line before you begin your forward cast. To avoid this, I hold the line against the rod handle with my index finger. When I start my forward cast I let go of the...

Re: What are you reading/watching?

I'm rereading Hatches by David Hughes. What an excellent book. I recently reread The Trout and the Fly by Clarke and Goddard. Another great book that, IMHO, should be a classic.

Re: Rod car carriers

I like the rod vault, but I don't think it's long enough for spey rods.

Can any rod carrier hold 12'6" spey rods?

I'm interested in this one:

Very helpful,

P.S. I just saw the Patagonia Rio Gallegos waders on sale so I pulled the trigger.

Zipper Waders Anyone?

I am interested in buying a pair of zipper waders for when nature calls. (Now that I'm getting up there this happens more frequently.)

Yesterday, I went to a fly shop and tried on two pairs. It...

Re: tying leaders - what to do with what I have

I recently read that I shouldn't use Stren Easy Cast for butt material as it will not transmit energy to the rest of the leader.

Has anyone else heard this?

Re: Best Rod For Roll Casting

If you're roll casting a WF line make sure that the running line - the thin part - is not outside the rod tip.

Leaders Built with Stren Easy Cast

I build leaders using Stren Easy Cast up until I start using tippet material.
(In a 9-foot leader, for example, my first five feet or so might be made up of Stren Easy Cast.)

I recently read that...

Re: Wading boots for wide feet?

Years ago one line of Korker's was wide enough for EEE.

I'm not sure about their new lines, but I would call them up and ask. That's what I did.

Re: Beaverkill

If you're going to fish the Beaverkill you'll probably have to do it very early in the morning. If the sun is out the river will heat up very quickly.
