Update:

I ended up taking my 4wt 7'6"... it worked out great! Fishing new water I never have much in the way of expectations. Its more about getting out and enjoying the creek/river and nature. I...

7'6" vs 8'6"

As some might know from a previous post, I am headed to WNY to see family and squeeze in a day of fishing. The spot that I have scouted out, Cattaraugus Creek, appears to be fairly narrow. At its...

Re: Calling WNY'ers!!

I appreciate the input fellas. I was leaning towards Cattaraugus Creek down near arcade area. I'm more interested in trout fishing and will go after smallies as a back up plan.

Calling WNY'ers!!

I am headed to Buffalo in 10 days, while I am there I plan on doing some fishing. I am looking to get pointed the general direction of where to do some smallie/trout fishing, hopefully on the same...

Re: warmwater pics

Hit the water again this morning after I got out of work in an attempt to get another carp fix. I lost one because my knot came untied. After that, they disappeared. I did manage to land this guy on...

Re: Hallelujah! First carp on a fly rod!

It took me the better part of a year to bring one to hand. I have heard time and time again, if you can land a bonefish or a carp on a fly rod, there isn't much that you can't land. People have this...

Re: Just Curious: How Many Fly Rods Do you Own

My collection has grown by two this year. I received a 7'6" 4wt from my dad as a Christmas present this year and I have my grandfather's old Shakespeare Wonder of. I'm not exactly sure what wt it is,...

Re: Hallelujah! First carp on a fly rod!

Thanks Ard! Indeed, I have been at this for nearly a year. I suppose I might have accomplished it sooner, however, having a 4yo and 6yo along with work and day to day life limits my time on the...

Re: Hallelujah! First carp on a fly rod!

I was using my 8wt rod and they both put a serious bend on that rod. I'm not sure I would have been able to enough pressure on them with a 5wt rod, they probably would have turned it to toothpicks.

Hallelujah!!! I finally landed my first carp on a fly rod this morning after I got out of work! Overcast and cool this morning, the carp were out in abundance. This guy took a hellgrammite pattern...

Re: Epoxy/nail polish scent

I have heard that carp can smell/taste head cement/lacquer on flies. When tying carp flies....I stay away from both.

Re: 5wt To Handle Carp

The places around me here in NC, I have to think the same thing. I would say that all the carp that I have seen are easily in the 15-20 pound range. No little pups that I have come across. Which is...

Re: 5wt To Handle Carp

5wt seems a bit light in my opinion. I'd think that you'd get taken into your backing nearly every time you hooked one. Mind you I have yet to land a carp, but the ones that I have hooked into have...

I've been fly fishing for about 5 years now. While I am able to cast, I am neither elegant nor consistent. By the same token, I am also not one of those guys that when you observe them casting their...
