Re: Cork Seal (U-40)??

Appearance is certainly a personal factor, but does anyone have enough experience with cork to state whether Cork Seal would help protect the filler and keep it in place over time?

Regarding...

Re: Cork Seal (U-40)??

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes U-40. However, if I spring for an expensive rod I might not use it in case it impacts resale value.

Cork Seal (U-40)??

Does the fly fishing community seal their cork handles?

Last year I started using U-40 on my bass gear. Whether or not it's true, I feel like I'm protecting the cork. Also, it doesn't hurt that...

Re: Echo rods

I'm glad to hear the 5wt is a "go to" rod. I picked up a 5 wt Classic as my first rod. As a newbie I'm anxious to make my first cast with it.

Re: Leaders for poppers and bugs

This was a timely thready for me. I've been wondering what is the largest size fly I should use with my 5 wt. I have NO casting experience yet. The discussion about leaders helped my understanding...

Re: Looking for some Input

You could try calling Jim Bender at: The Lower Forty - Central New England's largest flyfishing specialty shop (http://www.thelowerforty.com).

I don't have any experience with Lower Forty, but I...

Re: first 'gills for the season

We're still at least 2 - 3 weeks from open water in Western MA. I'm looking forward to my first cast. I guess I should start gettin' myself some flies, leaders & tippets. However, going for...

Re: New to this hole fly fishing thing

This is already a great thread. I've been hanging around the forum for about a month and I've already learned a lot, even though I haven't made my first cast yet.

Analyst by trade, I'm used to...

Re: Wading in Ponds?

I think I'll stay on the ground, but if I change my mind I'll be sure to bring along a wading staff slash snake basher.

Re: 1st $100 on Flies, Leaders & Accessories (panfish)

So far my only dedicated Fly Fishing tool is a 5" Dr Slick Foreceps. I had a $10 promotional card expiring that day at LL Bean. I figured it would be much better than pliers for little guys,...

Re: 1st $100 on Flies, Leaders & Accessories (panfish)

I think raindogt got me figured out in the first post. Everyone else continued with the great thoughts.

I definately need to look into "furled" leaders. I haven't dug into the types of leaders...

1st $100 on Flies, Leaders & Accessories (panfish)

To maintain some degree of discipline, I'd like to prioritize a list of the items that I will need for panfishing. I'd be happy catching small LMB or might try a tiny brook for trout, but I'll...

Re: 4 wt or 5 wt for Northeast Panfish??

I've already hooked the catch of my lifetime. I certainly don't want to let her get away :):)

My reason for chasing panfish is that it should allow me to maximize my time away and at home. When...

Re: Wading in Ponds?

Thanks, I thought silty bottoms might be a challenge. I don't feel so whimpy now.

I'm assuming (at least in the Northeast) that I will need to get really good at roll casting to avoid brush and...

Wading in Ponds?

I've always fished Northeast ponds from the banks. It didn't take me long to learn that they can be very slippery and mucky (lots of silt). However, I have done wet wading in brooks and clear...

Re: 4 wt or 5 wt for Northeast Panfish??

I was already asked, "when are you going to have time to use that thing...," so I will probably have to concentrate on reel, line, leaders, etc. before I think about and additional outfit :)

I...

Re: Casual Beginner Outfit - TFO NXT or other options?

Thanks all, I ended up with a used Echo Classic 590-4x. I guess I now have to figure out how to complete the outfit :) Reel & Line... A new search begins.

Re: 4 wt or 5 wt for Northeast Panfish??

Well, I just snagged a used Echo Classic 590-4x at what I hope was a good deal. I think it should fit the bill as an all around rod, including pan fish. I was far enough under my budget that I'm...

Re: vt2

Hope you enjoy your new VT2. Please share your experiences with it. I'm looking for my first fly rod. Although my budget says TFO Pro, the closeout prices on the VT2 look very tempting. Cheers!

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that Greys was that big. It's also good to hear that they are well finished.

Re: Greys X-Flite

Thanks Frank,

I figure a TFO Pro is probably my safest bet for a starter rod, but the Yankee in me doesn't want to pass up a bargain deal. The word "closeout" always gets my attention. The guys...

Greys X-Flite

I did a search and didn't find much in the way of opinions on the Greys X-Flite. Since it is being closed out, I figure I may not be the only on interested in a potential bargain.

Does anyone...
