Default Ideas for Pheasant

Well I am a Newbie to fly tying.
I only know a few patterns.
But recently I got a full pheasant skin given to me. I was wondering If any of you could give me some good idea on how to use these feathers. As well as the type of fly an any info on how to tie them.
Thanks
DAVE

The small bluish feathers around the lower neck on golden pheasant are excellent for legs on dark nymphs. The flank feathers are beautiful and make great tails for many nymphs as a replacement/improvement to classic ingredients.

I use the 'church window' feathers as cheeks on big streamers, they make for some good eyes. They're also good for tying the 'crab apple' crab fly

Here's a pic with some ISO nymphs done with pheasant feathers as described above.

Here's a step by step for tying this pattern. It works with several different hatch matches by changing the colors to so even as a new tier...its a good pattern to learn.

Here's a Crayfish pattern using pheasant feathers for the tail, and pinchers.

Fly Tyer Magazine, Fly Tying, Fly Recipes, Fly Patterns, Fly Fishing - The River Knight

These are awesome. Takes awhile to tie but worth it.

Hi Dave,

I am a long ways from needing any nymphs tied from pheasant but the rump and belly feathers make fine wet fly hackle. The only pictures I have are of hooks larger than you would use but they will show pheasant as hackles. If you use a fine wire trout hook the flies will work wherever you use them.

This is made with Hares Mask fur and pheasant rump;

This is also pheasant rump, I make a lot of this type fly for trout.

The church window feathers make a nice wet may fly, most of the body feathers are used for something.
