The Cross Fitch, steelhead, trout, salmon
I'm working on a new tie and have a prototype to post, I truly hope that someone out there will be inspired to try some of these flies. Materials can be substituted when the pattern calls for something weird. Fitch, by the way is a member of the weasel family. I have some fitch that I purchased in the mid seventies and also a nice weasel tail I took from a road kill about a decade ago. You don't see too many weasels screw up like that do you?
This is the first attempt and the ones to follow promise to be a bit more sleek but here goes.
The Recipe;
Hook: Gamakatsu single salmon 01
Thread: Black silk
Tag: A few turns of small French twist silver tinsel
Tip: Golden yellow floss
Tail: A golden pheasant crest feather
Butt: Black ostrich herl
Body: Black single strand floss
Ribbing: Two pieces of medium embossed silver tinsel wound forward in opposing directions
Beard: A small bunch of dyed gold fibers from a ringneck pheasant rump feather
Wing: A nice bunch of fitch tail
Cheeks: very small golden pheasant tippets
