Default Blue Moon

You know you're getting old when you tie flies on New Year's Eve rather than party. Here we were illuminated by an outstanding display put forth by the 'Blue Moon' so I tied a fly truing to use the colors that were visible in the aura that encircled the moon.

Once in a blue moon is when I will tie this although there is a second (with some upgrades) started and clamped in the vise. I will fish with the first one (pictured) and save the second until the next blue moon.

Very nice fly.

I did the same thing last night, since everyone in my family was ill but me.

Great fly Ard! There is a lot going on in the dressing, it would look great in the water.

Nice Fly Ard, and the positive side is depending on the definition you use you will have opportunity to use it.

Using the Farmers' Almanac definition of blue moon (meaning the third full moon in a season of four full moons), blue moons occur:

November 21, 2010
August 21, 2013
May 21, 2016
[edit] Calendar

Two full moons in one month:[7]
2009: December 2; December 31 (combined with a partial lunar eclipse in some parts of the world)
2012: August 2, August 31
2015: July 2, July 31
The next time New Year's Eve will fall on a Blue Moon (as occurred on 31 December, 2009) is 2028.

Kerry,

I should never have opened the second bottle of red! That is why there is a lot of dressing on the hook................... I think the others will be dressed down. Darn, 2028! lucky if I'm still tying then.............
