Default Jimmie's Salmon Fly

Here is a salmon fly pattern that Jimmie sent me along with a very nice patch of Black Bear hair, called the Black Bear Orange Butt.
Hook: Up-eyed Salmon (I used a Partridge 2/0)
Thread: Black: Ultra 70
Throat: Black hackle feather
Wing: Black Bear Hair
Under wing: Squirrel
Rib: Silver Tinsel
Head: Black
Butt: Flour Orange
Tag: Silver Tinsel
Some versions of this fly use a tail of Black Bear hair.
For those of you using Peak Vises, note that I tied this 2/0 pattern in the midge jaws.

I'm tell'en ya,

Salmon Fly Fever, that's what it is! I don't know if I can or should take credit for this phenomenon but this is what I was hoping for when I first started posting my patterns.

I tied plenty of dries and wets when I lived in Pennsylvania and some said I was good at it but I always had a soft spot for the fancy stuff. They are fun to make and present a challenge. Kind of like a scavenger hunt prior to starting isn't it? You gotta get all the stuff together then there's the mood thing, then you tie flies. When you're done you feel different about the fly than the average Light Cahill.

Nice work Larry,

Ard

Thanks guys!

Ard, I believe you are the guy that has inspired all of us to tie salmon flies, but you are still the King! I love your traditional style of tying salmon flies, if I could tie that well I wouldn't be able to bring myself to fish with them, they belong in a show case.

Thank you Larry,

I am so glad to see so many members having fun at the vise with these patterns it is very rewarding to think I helped in any way. I am waiting for some hooks and will tie up the flies for the swap as soon as I have them.

There are many really good tiers who post here, let us not forget Jocelin from Quebec, his flies are nearly perfect. I'm just happy to have found a home for my passion and I really enjoy the exchange we all have here.

Ard: Yes, I agree we have many very fine tiers on this forum, it is really fun to see their stuff: Trgve and Cicvara are a couple of my favorite tiers!
