Default One More Simple Fly...

As you can see I like simple to tye flies; here's another one for you...

Click the image to open in full size.

Simple Stone, sz 10, 12, 14 on a 3906B usually, I have tied them on scud type hooks.
Gold, copper, or black bead.
Tail, goose biot, hackle fibers from a saddle, guard hairs from a rabbit; your choice.
Body, black dubbing; lately I've been mixing black rabbit with some Australian Possum and clipped Ice Dub Blue Steelie Dubbing in my coffee grinder; you'll see little flashes of blue in the body. Taper the body up to the bead, no rib or wingcase.

This is another staple in my Steelhead box...

Dan

That Ice Dub looks great... gives it a little pizazz. May it land you a fighting Steely...

Nice Dan. I'm going to tie some. I don't have much tied for Steelhead.

Add on edit: I just tied one up. Neat looking fly. I like how you gave options in your recipe.

Dan,

You are a tying machine. I don't think any fly is simple to tie unless you are a pro. They all take work and composition, balance etc.

Nice tie. I noticed the 'half pinched' barb. I was just reading in a magazine where they showed that. Supposed to penetrate better than unpinched, but hold better than crushed. Have you used these half pinched barbs much? Or was it just to get the bead on?

Dan: Very nice work, I really like the simple but very buggy look that stone fly has!

I usually pinch the barbs down Dan, especially when I'm using beads. Makes it a little easier to do a quick release.
