The Dette Style Coffin Fly Simply amazed me
 
When I was a Beginning Student about 20 Yrs ago....I was amazed by many of the Dette Fly's and I Still am Frankly....But the Dette Style Coffin Fly is my Favorite....It Simply Dazzled me....What a thing of great Beauty....And Mary Dette tied them with Such Graced and skill.....

That's a really nice looking fly, dries like that are way out of my league but they sure are fun to look at.

Looks like a white goose biot for the body..

I'll guess:
moose for the tail
goose biot body
badger hackle
mallard

beautiful!

Hi Diver Dan and Futuramille... The Tail is made of Peccary the abdomen is made of White Polly, and the Ruff part is white hackle Trimmed vary Short and Counter Wound with three with 3/0 white thread....not that tough, but very Beautiful

First fly that I've seen with badger hackle. I like that stuff. Nice looking fly.

I think that the Dettes have had an impact on every tyer that uses hackle....not only the coffin fly....But especially the Coffin Fly.....If you will notice that the Detties Use a slightly heavier Hackle Large than most and a slightly larger wing....Much more different than most modern catskill tyers are trying to shove done our throats.....Why?? a misconception, Maybe ....I Use a Slightly oversize Hackle so ever thing must follow suite....

If you have ever seen the naturals that these are imitating, especially where the Beaverkill and East Branch of the Delaware meet, you would not think the hackle is oversized!!

What a dry fly frenzy these hatches make for!!!
