Default Red Rover 2/0 from Kelson

Title says it all - not proportionally correct by the strictest terms, but a decent looking fly.

And that's a 2/0 fly? That's a big one, I imagine someone pitching that at a tarpon, just for the sake of catching one on a classic streamer :P Now, I have always noticed it but haven't asked before, it looks like the eye on the classic streamers is some sort of fabric rather than metal... what's the deal with that?

Eyes are silk gut, from the gut of a silk worm. Tied onto a blind eye hook. Old wet flies also used to be snelled with horsehair or silk gut!!

On the few Classics I've done that came out ok I would always cheat when it came to the tippet underwing. I'd measure the main wing against it and then trim the top of the tippet. Kudos for doing it the right way!
