Post Micro-Caddis...

Here are two out of three patterns I use when Micro-Caddis are present. Almost all Micro - Caddis are smaller than # 18, with the majority being # 22 - # 24...and smaller. Their primary colors are brown, olive and yellow. The trick to knowing they are present, is to check the stream side vegetation where they will be scurrying about like crazy...

BROWN MICRO – CADDIS

THREAD: Lagartun 74 Denier, Rusty Brown or Gordon Griffith 14/0 Sheer, Brown - ( Yellow for body / Grey head for Yellow version)

HOOK: TMC 2488 or 2488H #20 – # 24

TAG: Gold Holo Tinsel - ( Silver for Yellow version)

OVER ABDOMEN: Tan Micro Tubing – (Clear for Yellow version)

WINGS: Brown Zelon, strand split ( Dun for Yellow version)

THORAX: Brown Ostrich Herl – ( Grey for Yellow version)

They are here in great numbers in August and September...they are in many other places too...

Thanks for the recipes Planettrout. Just tied some. Man are they small. Always fun tying a new fly.

Excellent post and pictures. I'll be tying some up tonight as we have micro caddis here in SC as well....not heavy mind you but always good to have a tried and true pattern in the box to call on or just add as a dropper just in case.

Nice micro-caddis, PT.

We had a "going tiny" swap last year that Jonathan (futuramille) ginned-up the idea for. Those flies of yours would have been a welcome addition!

Nice water pics!

HI,,

Does anyone have any interest in swapping micro caddis and midge flies for Irish lake flies.
