Another nice fly Laurie.
Looked at length for claret pheasant tail in the U.S. with no luck. Plenty of places in the UK have it including e-Bay, UK.
Tried soaking a PT tail in wine overnight. It didn't work. I'll keep trying because that first fly is way too cool.

Default claret cock pheasant

Hi Jimmie
I dye my pheasant tails in claret then soak them in a weak solution of black, you end up with a beautiful black claret. This shade works a treat on the peaty loughs of Ireland.I also use the same dye technique for the tails on Irish shrimp flies.
i have been messing around with Red woven nymphs, especially for the back end season on the rivers with great results
here is my woven Red runner
Hook no 10 kamasan B175
thread black 8/0
tail red dyed pheasant tail
bodywoven red and silver utc wire
thorax red pheasant tail and red holo tinsel
dubbing red flo dubbing
legs red pheasant tail folded back

Thanks Laurie.
I'll look for a "claret" dye mix.
Your Woven Red Runner is another winner. Beautiful work.
