Default My First Attempts at a Black Stone Fly

I spent quite a bit of time searching for a Black Stone Fly pattern that was not too difficult and was representative of what we have here on the the Salmon River in NY. I found the following post, and tried to imitate it as close as possible.

Black and Brown HW Stone Fly

Easier said than done. First, I've been tying only about a month. Second, I found it very difficult to get the biots to tie in correctly for the legs. In the end I tried a number of different options. Here are pictures of what I tied. I'm not sure ANY of them look like a stone fly. I know proportions are off, antenna are not the same length, etc. I'm just looking for some suggestions on which one(s) look the closest so I know which one to pursue. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

#3 has potential but like you say...need to work on proportions and your dubbing.

nice ties, your getting there. I would tie up some like number two with different color ribs. Maybe some yellow, cream, silver and red. I bet those will catch fish - especially just below a riffle.

I like them all for a stone but I leave out the antenna as I like to let them swing out at the end of the drift. The antena make them spin a bit.

Listened to what was said, took what I thought was the best compromise, and came up with this. Am I on the right track? The lower body is black, although the flash makes it look brown. I used Hares Ice Dub Black (the flash really brings out the green in it).

Thats the cat's arse right there! Find some slower deeper water by a riffle and swing that low and slow, death on a stick! Edges of pools closer than comfortably to log piles and jam ups, they'll be making their apperance here shortly. I can't wait!
