Regarding what Sasha just said, I have seen the clown wig and nose. He is serious, and God knows I don't carry a gun because I find way too many times when I would want to................. well I'm not gonna go there. Peace Baby

It is true I almost always carry when I am out. However I normally am fishing somewhere off the beaten path. Because of that I would rather have something with me and not need it than the other way around.

Now the clown thing started out as someone talking smack to a few of us on another site and we took it and ran with it. Things calmed down but we decided to keep the clown thing (It's been going on now for over a year).

I must be lucky because even when I fish the more popular places I have only been low-holed one time. The guy that did it looked like he was at least in his 70's so he should have known better. I chose to say nothing though because I am not one to give an old guy $hit over a run. We did end up chatting for a bit about fly fishing (he said it was nice too see the younger generation getting into the sport) and then I decided to go check out another hole.

Colotrout, Here is a possible line for you, "Hey buddy, if you want to see what I'm using Just ask, you don't have to climb into my vest pocket". If that doesn't work just move on, a fight isn't worth it...

Me too. I don't know how many mass murdering whack jobs that go shooting places up could have been stopped if just one person had a gun. It's a lot though. One guy with two hand guns just killed and wounded how many people at Fort Hood? If just one of them had been armed, how many would have been saved? The insane idea behind gun control is the idea of a person who does not care that it is illegal to shoot people will care that it is illegal to carry a gun. The only people that stop carrying them are the law abiding 'targets'. One of my favorite lines from All in the Family was Gloria telling Archie how many people were killed with guns. He asked her "Would it have made you happier if they was shoved out of windows?"

I also troll plugs for Walleye on the lake occasionally. I started using Seagull decoys instead of marker buoys. If you toss out a marker here you will be lucky if you can get close enough to pick it back up. Not one person ever noticed the "Seagulls" were not real.

I had a guy come up next to me once with bait and a giant bobber and bean me with the bobber. (Glad it was just the bobber.) No comment I had worked and he drove me out of my spot. Maybe if I had the wig and nose?

I have a variation of the clown wig and nose, but it involves a massive sombrero from a less-than-sober Cinco de Mayo outing, three months of untrimmed beard, cheap cigars, shouting profanity when a fish is missed, and a visible flask. Tends to keep the Orvis/LL Bean types away : )

Most times I'll just ignore it and move off to another decent stretch of water, unless there's fish actively working where I'm at. Then I'll typically give the offending angler a death glare, as though I expect to light them on fire with my mind. Most times they notice, and tend to wander off, sheepishly. If not, I'll keep fishing, but make the observation that "It's a pretty #$%@ thing to walk up on a guy and start casting to the fish he's working, in a river full of fish." So far I've been lucky in that I haven't ran into a real jerk. I guess most people know when they're in the wrong, you just have to remind them so that they'll realize it.

Other times, when I'm not in fishing mode, I tend to be a bit more gentle. I'll say hello, ask how the fishing is, etc etc, then gently remind them that there's a whole river full of fish to be had, and the fishing may be better somewhere else than at my shoulder...
