Default What type of gear might you need for Tampa Bay area?

We live in Nevada now and the largest weight rod I use is a 7wt for Cutthroat Trout at Pyramid Lake but it looks like in 8-9 months were going to be moving to the
Tampa Bay Florida and I am not sure what type of fish there are to fish for in the area?

Would I need to purchase all new gear because my 6-7-8 wt stuff is too light or would I be able to use what I have?

They have all kinds of stuff there. If you go for bigger Tarpon you need a 12 wt, but for most other salt you could get away with a 10 wt. Your 7 wt will get you by for a lot of the stuff there. They have some pretty cool exotics in the freshwater there also, so don't get rid of any of the rods you have. You will find places to use them. If it was me though, I'd start shopping for a 10wt.

Thank you Dan I appreciate your input. I think I will hold off on the Tarpon for a while but I have plenty of time to shop around for a 10wt rod and reel setup.

If you're gonna surf fish, use at least an 8 weight and sinking line. floating line is worthless on the waves. "Match the hatch"... study the species of baitfish/shrimp/crabs. I lived on the east side a while back. Snook were a great fish to fly cast to
