Bite your tongue! I use a 5 wt for them all of the time. I also have a river with some monster Smallies. If I can do it here with a 5 wt., you should be good to go anywhere with a 5 wt. I'll tell you something else, I think you can catch more with a fly rod than you can a spinning rod. An opinion I have proved more than once.
