Default Adventures in the NC Mountains

I kicked off my personal 2014 fishing season on Saturday with a trip to a beautiful mountain stream north of Morgantown, NC. A couple mile hike into the gorge and I was fishing. The conditions were beautiful. The stream was high and dingy with the snowmelt from our recents storms. Plenty of early black stoneflies were flying around.

Unfortunately, the fish didn't cooperate. I suspect that the cold from the snow melt had them mostly shut down. Oh well. I did manage one nice wild rainbow, but didn't get a picture. I was too precariously balanced on a wet rock to risk taking out my camera. Beautiful scenery, as always.

View downstream. This part of the stream has a very high gradient.

Did I mention the high gradient?

Very nice way to start the 2014 fishing, with some beautiful country and gorgeous little stream, definitely worth the hike in despite the poor fishing conditions.
