Default Davidson River, NC

Is there anyone out there that has fished the Davidson River in Brevard, NC. I am planning a trip there for a day of fishing and I would love to get a little information from a fellow fisherman who has been there before.

Thanks in advance,

WLB

The D is one of the most technical streams around. There are lots of fish and larger ones that haunt the waters. Be stealth! The fish are there and you can catch them, but you need to keep low and be ready.

I would fish above the hatchery or around the turn to the road to the hatchery. Drop me an email and I can give you a bit more directions to a few “holes.”

Thumbs up Re: Davidson River, NC

I fished there last October, cold an Rainy all day. Fished just ajacent to the parking lot. Large fish there, very clear water, and very fine tippet, 5 6 or 7x. since i could not see a small (18-22) dry in the dark light that day, I went to a small Black Woolybugger. Got broke off a couple off times, but went to 5x and landed 2 over 20 inches. It was a fun day. Good Luck

I just fished by the hatchery about 2 days ago. The fishing is good. I suggest using a small red midge larva with a size 14 foam black ant as a strike indicator a right beside the hatchery. I used a 6x tippet.

It gets hammered pretty hard and was in really bad shape earlier this year but luckily the rain has brought it up some. Fishing there can be finicky to say the least. You'll most likely have the best success on tiny midges, although if the water is up then stripping a big streamer can often produce something.

Honestly, i haven't been there in a while since i don't like fighting crowds and, to me, there is better fishing to be had just miles away.
