i was not specific on purpose. i am wide open to suggestions. probably not up to chasing sailfish with a fly rod out in open water, since i've never fished saltwater before. but i've been preparing for it for the past 2 years. so i'm pretty much game for anything from tarpon/permit to chasing shell crackers in a canoe.

I am from Central Florida and if I can help with anything let me know. If you want saltwater fly fishing on the west central coast the people I would recomend would be:

Southwest florida fly fishing guides and fly shop sarasota bay charlotte

Now depending on how much time you have a trip to Mosquito Lagoon (3.5 hour drive about for you) would be an awesome adventure as well and I noticed a guide posted on this forum from there. NASA is right next to the Lagoon so you could make it a dual stop.

thanks, shallowfly. i've about got my dance card full at this point though. and i may not even have to spring for a guide trip due to the wonderful hospitality of local fly fishermen from the tampa bay area i hooked up with through federation of fly fishers contacts. but i probably am still going to hire a kayak guide one day for some redfish flats action. he's out of sarasota or naples, but likes to come north. and he comes very highly recommended by virtually everyone down that way.

Well glad to hear your all set. Your coming at a great time of the year so fishing will be good regardless in both fresh and salt water.

If you do have any questions on what to target if your heading out by yourself just give me a call.

Quick tip: A clouser in chartrues and white with the barb bent down targeting speckled trout is a fun default if you want to catch and release alot of fish right now.

I would call Capt. Rick Grasset - Florida Fly Fishing
He has been fishing that area for many years and is a top fly guide.
