West TN Monster Bluegill

Newbie here. How's everyone doing?

Being surrounded by warm water in west TN, I'm always looking for new fly rod experiences.

I will often visit the local ponds just to work on my cast and catch whatever is biting a small dry fly, or bugger. Usually small red ear, bluegill and shell crackers.

So ... where are the monster bull bluegill around the west TN region?

I would be willing to drive a couple hours to get into some big, mature bulls.

I hope someone has the scoop!

Just saw this post. If you don't mind paying a guide fee that's not much more than what a lot of guides on public water charge, and less than most private waters especially the trophy ones, I guide on several ponds in middle Tennessee that I've been aggressively managing since 2009 for trophy bluegill. Several bluegill in the pound-and-a-half range were caught this past year, and I caught a 31-oz. hybrid in October. I expect two-pounders to start showing up regularly this spring.

Here are a couple photos:

Why do I get the feeling this thread was a set up?

tnpondmanager 12-24-2012 10:03 AM

Re: West TN Monster Bluegill

That feeling would be incorrect. If you check the post date on the original poster's post, it's six months prior to my post, the latter of which happened when I first saw the OP. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to make a post as a "set-up" and then wait six months before replying to it.

I realize some business people do business that way - a certain hatchery in Georgia comes to mind - but I don't. I'm well-known on a few other fishing forums and have a pond management business in addition to my guiding one, and I don't think you'll find anyone who would support your implication about me.

But again, the most obvious clue that your implication is silly is simply the date of the two posts.

Sorry for the long delay in answering, Streamhound! I haven't been on here in a while, to tell the truth had forgotten about the post I made, and was just now Googling "monster bluegill" and ended up in the thread again.

I am in Columbia, forty miles south of Nashville. Since my last post, an 11" coppernose that a prominent outdoor writer estimated to have weighed 1-12 or better, a pure northern-strain bluegill that likely would've pushed two pounds, and several northern-strain and coppernose in the 20-24-oz. range have come from the ponds I guide on; and I caught a hybrid this past summer that weighed right at two pounds. Pictures here:

Ut Oh, you reported me...

I did say I was sorry...Didnt I? Pull up your big girl panties, relax and enjoy the fun!

Maybe, If you brought something of value or have participated in the forum before you pimped your monster bluegill/guide service I would not have teased you. You have to admit....the whole bluegill guide thingy is funny.

Remember, this is the internet. Dont take anything personal.

Just sayin

Gotta say, he has mostly only used this forum as a place for free advertisement. He kind of left himself open to criticism and jokes. :)
