Caney Fork river below Center Hill dam wading is possible with no generation from the dam and drift boat fishing also.

There are a few streams east of Nashville which are seasonally stocked with trout, however they get too warm in the summer for holdover fish. There's a map here. Like Billy said the Caney Fork is the closest tailwater- big water, but wadeable in low flows. The Obey (tailwater of Dale Hollow reservoir), is also fairly close, but mostly a put-and-take fishery.

Tons of streams to explore warmwater species, though- black bass, white bass, panfish and the occasional striper or muskie.

I second the Caney I was in TN for 4 + weeks and hit numerous streams
the Caney is just about the most western trout waters...how good was the Caney?/ It was early in May and the fog was so thick I couldn't see the hood of my truck and I was being passed by semi's on I-40 so I pulled into the rest stop about an hour east of Nashville....it has angler parking and access to the Caney...water was up but clear (letting water out after some heavy rains) couldn't wade so I slogged the shore in ankle deep mud and used a ultralight spinner (no room to use even my 6 ft 3 wt) caught Brown after Brown after Brown...12- 16 inches for over 2 and a half hours until the fog totally lifted and I got back on the road...Rutters book told me about this spot and SO many more..

get a copy of Ian Rutters book Tennessee Trout Waters ...it gave me a TON of waters to fish from streams to tailwaters and lakes with access and wading data...and much more well worth the few $$ you can order it from Amazon...I bought mine in the Orvis store in Sevierville on a previous trip
