Fall Bass fishing!

Took the fly rods and spinning gear to enjoy some of the warm weather we had this fall in Northern Minnesota. Was able to get my first Minnesota November largemouth! There is some great fall fly fishing for bass in the Upper Midwest. The largemouth's are getting ready for hard water and putting on the feed bags. The best thing about this time of the year, when the water temp's dip below 50 degrees, the small fish move out deeper with the panfish, but the big boys still roam the shallows looking for food. The big fish are more concentrated in the best areas, usually the warmest water with structure (weeds, wood), but the baitfish need to be in the same area as well. You put all three of those together and you'll have a successful day on the water catching them on the fly. Topwater flies will work if fished very slowly, not erradic and popped hard like in the summer. Subsurface flies like clousers and bigger leech type pattern work very well. Something big and slow that resembles easy prey for a big largemouth.

Here are few pics, just click on the links below.
