July 31: Southeast MN

My son and I ventured out south of 90 on Wednesdday afternoon. Streams are in great shape and the weather has been nothing short of awesome for this time of year.

He startedout with his spinning rod, but after some coaxing, he wanted to use the fly rod. He was a little rusty, but with some fatherly advice, things started to click into place for him.

The old man even managed to land a few fish also.

Fishing was good, the company even better, and seeing your ten-year old pop trout with the fly rod by himself are proud moments.

Nice pics. But I think you're going to tip the location if you post pics of rainbows like that. :)

Unfortunately, there are some holdover rainbows where we were. They get stocked on the river (a no kill river) as part of a kid's fishing day event in the spring, and the ones that don't get plunked out of there remain in there.

Congrats on a great day of fishing! It doesn't get much better than getting to spend sometime with your son and having success catching trout! Those memories will last forever.
