Default Beating the Heat...For Now

I got out on Saturday in southeast Minnesota with a great fly angler from North Carolina named Vince. The heat wave that has engulfed the upper Midwest was not full on this past Saturday, so fishing (and wet wading) was very good.

We fished some small stuff in the morning doing both nymphs and dries (stimies and big, puffy, tan caddis). The trout were definitely looking up and hammered dries as soon as they hit the water in most cases.

We hit some larger water in the afternoon, but we never changed tactics the entire day: tandem rigs for nymphs (no indicator) and dries on the other rod.

It looks like the weather will be in the 90 plus range for several days, so I'm opting to not get after it until the weekend.

Hear you. Watching the National Weather forecast (GMA) and you're going to be warmer than we here in Southern Oregon. Most unusual.
