Default Good fishing areas in MN?

Hello all -- new to these boards and fly fishing in general. I'm hooked, though -- maybe I have watched a River Runs through it too many times.

At any rate, I'm looking for good areas to fish in MN. I live in the western 'burbs of the metro area and I am wondering whats around here? Preferably within an hour or two driving distance.

Thanks all

I would check out Sherburne and the surrounding counties. Right up 94. Very good lakes. What species did you have in mind that you were fishing for? Do you have a boat? Let's hear a little more info.

Hi there -- thanks for getting back with me. I am interested in anything other than carp or suckers. I don't have a boat, but am going to borrow some waders -- hoping for some for father's day.

I live in St. Michael and have been fishing the crow a little by my house with a spin reel, but have caught only logs, although I have seen fish eating bugs, etc., on the top of the water as it gets closer to dusk.

I am ideally looking for a place that is within an hour or two from where I am at that is accessible from shore or with waders.

Thanks again!

If you are looking for trout you will have to drive either to SE MN by Cannon Falls or NE up by Duluth. Those are the best 2 area I know of as I didn't do much trout fishing in my time in MN. Both are quite a drive.

If you're looking for some good trout fisheries check out the Brule River in NW Wisconsin. I've heard very good things about it.
