Thats like a 1 in a 1,000,000 chance, I have caught hundrads of toothy fish and know people that have caught mnay more and not one bite in the bunch.
Haveing said that however, if you dont like to catch them, don't, thats your call, enjoy yourself out there.

117, I second McFly... buck up and bring some hemo's, boga grip, shark gloves, etc.... if none of that works, you may want to stick to blue gill and sunnies! :-)

My buddy fishes for pike nearly every day, in season.
He carries a jaw spreader and a Hook-Out

I was thinking about this last night after I went to bed. All the fish I have caught in my life wich is in the 1,000's (not to brag) I just fish ALOT and only two tooth marks, one from a gar I shot bow fishing and one from a walleye that I put my thumb in his mouth. Now cuts from gill plates ia another story, mnay species have razor sharp gill plates, white bass, drum, walleye, and others. I get cut on a weekly basis and a few over the years have been pretty nasty cuts. At least once or twice a month my thumbs get raw (like some one took sandpapper to them) from catching 50-100 bass in a day. Belive me that hurts, when youcatch so mnay bass your thumbs bleed from lipping them. Fins,,,,,,, at least once a fishing trip I get a fin in my hand.
Hooks, last year I took 4 hooks out my hands(ones past the barb) one I had to go to ER, one I pushed all the way threw, cut the barb off with plires then pulled back out, and two I just grabbed with plires gritted my teeth and yanked them back out. This year only one so far, thank God. I wont even talk about knife cuts from cleaning fish, cutting line, and things like that.
Then you have things like falling in the river, usally just a wet dunk, sometimes a broken bone or somehting. Many other ways to get hurt while fishing or even working on your boat and gear.
I tell you this to show you that getting attacked by a toothy fish is the least of a fishermans(womans) worries.
Out of all the things that can hurt you fishing, very few will send you to the ER like as fast as walking across the street, going for a drive, or just cooking your dinner.

I return 99% of the fish I catch; so I handle then as little as possible. I fish Chautauqua Lake which has a good Musky and Walleye population, plus L & S mouth bass and have been using Rapalas BoogiGrip for a number of years. Saves hook and tooth bites, weights and is best for the fish. There are many grippers out there, so give them a try.

Related but different question:

Why the hell are pike, walleye and muskie considered "Warmwater" fish? Given that these things all basically live in lakes that freeze over in the winter, what sense does it make to call them "Warmwater" species?

The only actual warmwater fish with teeth like that (in the US) are called gar.

I guess because they live next to Bass, sunfish, perch and cats in the same water?
