Good thing I'm strictly catch and release. This clam shell gets to live and fool another fisherman.

Caught while Skagit casting a switch rod from an inflatable SUP in the ICW. I'm guessing no one's ever put all of those words in the same sentence.

last fall, i've landed this sunfish (bluegill) with fly fishing rod/reel for first time. what a perfect day for being beginner fly angler on my birthday. small lake is only 1 or 2 miles away from my home to practice fly fishing.

of course, i had landed many sunfishes with spinner rod/reel by using wax worms in my youth (teenage). but fly fishing is much fun and first time as my new hobby.

i also rode on the watermaster kodiak raft to row.

i was worried if that bird may be injured in middle lake. i tried to rescue it but it was able to fly off the lake. whew. i wonder what kind of that bird?

Would be better as a poker hand than fishing catch, but all in all, not a bad afternoon.

We had fantastic fly fishing conditions late afternoon today in Florida, so I launched my kayak in a nearby lake. Took only a 4 wt setup since it was to be a quick trip. Caught some small bass and numerous fat gills, some on poppers and some on John Montana hybrid carp fly. Also lost a much bigger bass that jumped twice before spitting the hook. I think my popper was too small to get a good hook set in it's jaw. If I had a bigger popper and 6 wt setup, the other fish wouldn't have been as much fun.

By the time I headed in, the lake was like glass.

Got out again yesterday evening on a local Florida lake. Started slow, then hit a dock area that gave me six fish out of seven casts. Finally landed some of the 13 inch crappie that this lake holds. They are great fun on a 4 wt setup and a great way to get some fly fishing action, during the slowest season for salt water fly fishing (in our area anyway).

Not sure why, but I'm only able to get these nice crappie on the fly in January and February. I suspect they are getting ready to spawn along the shoreline and spend the rest of the year in deeper water.
