Okay, How big of a rod? 14/0 bugger or popper? How heavy can I get coated nylon leaders?

I'd say a stiff 12wt, braided wire leader, and 8/0 bluegill imitation should take care of it.

Good call Nick, quality gloves are very important. A good long sleeved fishing shirt too. A Simms or Orvis product perhaps?

It's got to be 99.99% illegal. Am sure it has been done, and I WANNA!

Wonder if I can get a gator tag / licence if they would ask how I got one?

There's a guide in the Keys who only fishes for two things with his 10 wt Tarpon and Gators ! He's been doing it for years and can't decide which he likes to catch more. And he knows that the Gator fishing is totally illegal! He said he could get the permit to fish for his one Gator a year but then what would he do the rest of the time! Strictly C&R and he uses an 80 lb leader no wire!

I've done it. When I was in High School and just starting to fly fish, my granddad had this floating dock on the Kissimmee River. There were weed beds along the banks. There was this little gator, maybe 3-4 feet that hung out there. I was fishing for gills with an orange rubber spider on a glass seven weight (I still have the rod) and there he was. I figured "What the hell" and dropped that spider in front of his nose about three times and BAM! He pulled and I pulled, he took some line then rolled and that was it. It was fun, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

today came across this article: Hunters can now apply for alligator lottery hunts - Louisiana Sportsman
my little video: https://vimeo.com/67037917

just might be useful to know: http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/alligat...tions-overview
Sport (Residents and Nonresidents)
Individuals can harvest alligators as a sport while being guided by a hunter possessing tags. Sport hunters must always be accompanied by a licensed hunter or helper. A sport license costs $25 for Louisiana residents and $150 for nonresidents.
