Default I'm so thankful for bluegills...

Even on a very marginal day the hungry bluegills make my trip to the water quite rewarding indeed.

If it hadn't been for bluegills we never would have learned to fly fish. We were so noisy and they are so forgiving.

Bluegill...friend of the angler.

Oh I concur.
One of my favs for sure.
I take em thru the ice, on flys, on spinning gear, with a wurm or bubber with the wee ones...aint much better on the table either in my mind.

Praise for the gill here as well!

As a married father of three active boys (2, 7, & 11) and full-time student, I have very little time to travel to the mountains (or anywhere else) to chase the elusive trout.

Bluegill and sunfish, on the other hand, I can chase between classes, and in between deliveries while working my weekend job. They're in just about every body of water larger than a puddle, and they're almost always hungry.

+1
and if your hardcore, chasing the 3/4 to 1 pound bruisers is as challenging as any other trophy slot.

I agree completely with everything stated in this thread, in fact, I'm now tying some wet fly's on the grandkids fishing poles instead of worms because the kids do catch plenty of fish (Bluegills) on the wet fly's and let's face it, the young ones like to reel the line in verses letting it set with a worm...

Regards, Boser

Dont forget the pumkinseeds, this bruiser came home!

I also have a brilliant male bluegill.
better than any fancy species, and when you find spiders/silverfish/pillbugs/extra kilbasi, shrimp, strawberry chunks, he'll BLAST those as well
