Default 6.5lb largemouth on a 3wt

Landed a nice 22" largemouth today, estimated @ 6.5lb due to the length. Thought I would share the pics. The fun part was I matched my 3wt (Sage Launch 7'6") up with an Abel Creek (no drag) so I had to palm the spool to slow this pig down. Drag is boring...

Dreamy!

Kickin' myself too...landed one nearly identical yesterday and only had my work phone. Took pics on that but no way to get them off

Mine was a 4 weight tho.

Sure are fun on light tackle and congrats bro...that's a Hawg!

Landed him in the 3-5 minute range, not too bad. The first run he made left me a bit nervous. I don't put fish "on the reel" if I can avoid it as I can strip line much quicker than I can reel in case the fish runs towards me. I fish barbless so keeping the line tight is critical. This guy forced himself onto the reel and the sweet sound of the Abel click and pawl screamed. I didn't try to slow him down until the second run, and that point I thought I may actually land this pig. Of course, when I brought him in the fly (#12 black bead head bugger) just fell out, gotta love that.

That's one bruiser Jason. Especially on the 3wt and fly that small. No small feat to land one that way.

Cheers,
Jim
