Default What is your favorite bass?

No there's no need to be technical and not consider the black bass species which are actually sunfish as part of this.

What is your favorite species of bass? (having "bass" in the title is perfectly sufficient)

Until I have a boat to get to more of the "buketmoufs" (largemouth in suthirn speek) that take flies with truly amazing aggression. I'll have to say that the Smallmouth Bass is my favorite. Those little green monsters sure do pull hard!

No question about it ... It's the smallmouth to include the Texas Special, our State fish.

Doug, I'm sorry, but I didn't follow that.

Did you mean a Guadalupe Bass is actually a sub-species of Smallmouth?

Nope ... allow me to quote TPWD:
The Guadalupe bass, like other "black bass" including largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, is not a true bass at all but a member of the sunfish family Centrarchidae. Micropterus is Greek, meaning "small fin" and is a rather unfortunate misnomer arising from an injured type specimen that made it appear that the posterior rays of the soft dorsal fin formed a small separate fin.

And sure enough, it is the state fish of Texas.

The largemouth is definitely my favorite. I love to start off with a #1 Peck's Popping Bug first thing in the morning and have caught hundreds and hundreds of largemouth on that fly, including a 9# and a 7-15#. When you have a large bass on your rod it is a real challenge.

Since the only bass I have caught on a fly is a smallie, I woul have to go with that. Have caught largemouth on spinning tackle but I am going after them this year on the fly. I am sure they are not worried.
