Default End of my season

I've been itching to get out one last time before the ice sets in, so I headed out to a local pond on private property. I said my season was over when pike fishing didn't work out because of the weather in November. I decided to go out today because we had a relatively nice December day for Ohio.

I arrived at the pond and it was nearly dark already. I thought I would try throwing some nymphs for bluegill. Well, nothing was interested in the nymph so I tied on a chartreuse zonker and a split shot to help get it down deep. It was a little tricky to cast with a medium-action 6 weight, but it was no sweat. I made a few casts and nothing. I made another cast and felt a sharp tug on the line. The fish put up a great fight. I was rewarded with a nice 14 inch largemouth bass. It was an awesome way to end the season.

The picture is pretty dark, but the bass is there!

Here you go, just messed with the levels a bit to make the fish a bit more visible! Unfortunately it makes the picture blurrier, but at least now you can see the fish!

Looks like a good way to end to the season.

I haven't been catching anything the past few trips, but still nice to be out and able to get a nymph to sink instead of just laying on the surface (ice).
Probably won't be much fishing now until late March unless I try the warmwater discharge from the powerplants on the Ohio river.

Definitely a great way to end the season, congrats!
I still have some tailwaters I can hit throughout the winter, just been too busy to get out lately.

Thanks to everyone, and a special thank you to gator for fixing up the picture! It certainly felt great to end the fly fishing season on a positive note. Now, I'll be busy at the bench getting ready for this spring!

I believe the Maumee has some warm discharges and I'm pretty sure I fished them. I could be wrong as well because it's been a few years. If I recall, there were nothing but carp and buffalo around them, and I think they were around Toledo. I think there's one here in Defiance by the dairy place, but access would be kind of tricky. Casting might be an issue, but may be less of an issue once I get my Imperial switch rod.
