A little offbeat fun

It was bit technical. They were tailing in shallow water and would spook real easy. I had to lay a long, light cast with a light colored nymph.

Nice fish, Roger! Little bigger than what we were seeing the other day ;)

Congrats, I can only imagine how spooky they are, those requiring a careful approach and soft presentation.

I'm not sure if it's legal everywhere, but you can lure them in closer when they are 'spooky' by placing a large ceramic castle in the water. :D I'm sorry. Couldn't help myself. :o

P.S. If I caght one like that, it would be my new avatar. No kidding this time. I'd have it mounted.

I got this one also. They were the only colors I saw. I'm guessing there are some reds and mixed colors in there also. They weren't real fast, but did have some endurance and would make long runs when brought to shore. Not as exciting as smallmouth, but good novelty.

a Koi I'm guessing? You still have me wondering what it is for sure
Is it stocked or a so called "wild" fish?
Kinda just throws me off you don't see that around this neck of the woods!
However I did see a goldfish hanging with some carp one time in a mountain creek that runs through backyards down here in the valley and well ya that threw me off too.;)

they are koi and not truly "wild", they are in a 1/4-3/8 acre pond. It had been a rearing pond at one time, but has been left unattended for a few years. It was just a novelty outing, not claiming high end sport.

Regardless sounds like they are a bit spooky and fun to catch!
Carp are a fun fish to catch and I guess koi are essentially the same thing.
I just didn't know if they ran "wild" in any river systems back your way or if it was more along the lines of what you said, which would have been my guess.
Thanks for posting:)
Peace!

Not "essentially", they are the same thing. Just a Common Carp bred for color.
