Default finally dialing in on carp

I've been out many times over the last year going after carp. more seriously in the last 2 months or so. I had landed one, and had a few shots, but never really put all the pieces together correctly. Thanks again to all of you guys who have posted helpful hints.
Yesterday something clicked; right weather, unpressured water, right fly, right time of day, and a good approach.
I had maybe 10 good shots, caught 3, and missed a few hook sets. Spooked several others on the approach. 3 carp in an afternoon was amazing! Also caught several small perch and bluegill, but could not find the huge bass that lives there.
The carp were all 'small' at 18-20", but probably weighed a few pounds each, fat little guys! The smallest one really had my drag ringing. All on 6wt with a clear sink tip line. Small brown crayfish #4.

Nice rubberlips! Isn't it great when you figure it out. Sometimes I think that's a better feeling then getting the fish when it all comes together. Congrats on a great outing!

Geat looking fish Tbblom, are you tying the crayfish pattern? Would have never guessed on that pattern...way to go.

I tied up the fly about an hour before... caught 3 before losing it in some reeds (don't ya know the fish just love hanging by the reeds...). Also got a take on a 'backstabber carp fly', which is just a marabou crayfish or leech.

Similar to 'Dan's crayfish' that he just posted.

Thin skin back tied over wrapped brown squirrel. Orange small wire to segment the tail. Clear/red speckle silicone legs, and a silver dumbell to get it down. sparse flash and yellow speckled legs for feelers and mouth parts. I hide the hook eye under the tail and color the dumbell black with sharpie.

Had so much fun yesterday I just had to go back.
I went a bit too early, not many fish on the flats. I over-lined several others and spooked them away... But the take on this fish was phenomenal.
About 1 rod length away, fish 1 foot from shore, me on a knee trying to hold absolutely still. I actually saw the fly get sucked up into its mouth; the fish exploded away leaving a plume of silt and a wake when I set the hook. Amazing fight from the ~20" class!

Mr.P,
your video on 'the take' is spot on. I don't know if I ever would have caught one without some of your information. I did manage to catch one on a blind cast, and the hit was actually pretty hard. But the rest have been too soft to feel. The body twitch at the eat... and the explosion when the hook is set, is just unreal.
Thanks again!
TB
