Had pretty good luck with a home-brewed #8 long shank thing I made up that looked a bit like a damsel nymph with bigger gills. I think the slightly larger than life gills helped mine sink a bit slower due to the bit of weight added to it. Surely don't want to make a disruptive spash with still water, feeding carp.
