I have never caught one of those either. I really want to very badly though. I think I have to drive across 2 1/2 -3 states at least to make it happen though.

NJ is chock full of good pickerel ponds, lakes, bogs. I used to have access to the old cranberry bogs on Ocean Spray's property in the 'Pines, crazy fishing down there!

Nice fish, congrats! Certainly pays off to have an outfit in the vehicle for times like that.

Great place to fish. It's one of the only places in NJ where I get my offroading and my fishing itch scratched at the same time

Thanks Larry, wish I could say that I'm always prepared but that would be a lie. Truth is there's always multiple rods in my truck because I hate unpacking it.

Funny how picks can always salvage a day especially in the winter . When everything else seems to be asleep you can always seem to manage at least one snake! Can't tell you how many times caught them even between floating ice. Nice one Marco glad you got out!

---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:19 PM ----------

Wt I'm surprised there aren't more Pickeral places in Ohio especially with so many pick places in NY , NJ and Pa!

---------- Post added at 02:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:22 PM ----------

I've caught Pickeral from Maine to Georgia but I think the Pine Barrens in NJ and the East End of Li gave more Pickeral than anywhere!

---------- Post added at 02:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------

And the biggest average Pickeral lake Nockamixon in Pa the average fish pushes 5 lbs with many in the 7 and 8 lb range!

Pickerel are very common around here in NY. They tend to **** off the bass fishers in our local ponds.
I have yet to catch one on the fly. I've already got plans to put my float tube in Grafton Lakes when we get some warm weather. There's a little bit of everything among the ponds there.

Throw Clousers with lots of flash. If you stay close to weed beds and lilypads you'll find them
