Where are you catching those in CT, Rip? I lived in the SW corner and rarely caught them.

Where I live there's dozens of small mill ponds and reservoirs. 22 fishable ones in my town alone. NE corner

It's finding the schools on one of those first warm sunny days after ice-out that counts. Those fish are hungry.
There's a window of about 2-3 weeks.... then I move on to something else.
There's other fish in the sea

I've had great luck with pink wooly buggers and crappie here in my local ponds. 10"-12" are quite common, and 15" are available as well.

Crappie rating:
eatin - few better
fightin - so-so but a big one can sure bend a fly rod
fun - high on my list as they are plentiful
availabilty - from South Florida to north of the Canadian border east to west

God pic guys and my preferred flies are small marabou bead head streamers fished under a strike indicator, very slow.
