Favorite gill flies?

I'm looking to go after gills more seriously this year and was wondering what some effective flies are. Thanks in advance!

Well I caught about 50 this weekend on a size 10 black foam beetle and about 30 on MM minnows (red tail, chartreuse body and red tail, black body). My other main pattern is the Fly Guy which is my personal creation.

For sub-surface I like small buggers in black, purple and olive. On top small poppers and foam beatles. Check breambugs.com.

A little ice-dub and deer hair on a hook

A Dave's hopper or a size 10 chartreuse bugger is about all you will need, any surface fly with rubber legs.

hard to beat a sz 10 black or brown wooly bugger
on top white foam spiders work well.
another is an inchworm pattern called a green wennie.
if you find a school of aggressively gills they have a tendency
to not be very picky:D

Been catching a lot on a size 6 hook with plastic bead eyes and a body made of dubbed green Puglisi tied sparsely.

The Briminator didn't get it's name for nothing. Plus, it's easy and cheap to tie. It's literally a one feather fly (with thread and bead-chain eyes and a hook).

I've had the best success with copper colored bead-chain.

One other point is that it is durable. Even when chewed up, it doesn't lose it's effectiveness.

I've been doing the very same thing for the last couple weeks. I live in central PA and I use a float tube and a 3wt.

I've tried all the regulars, and my fave is a Caddis dry (without the elk hair) size 12. Great top water action. For a med sink, I use the same fly with lead wraps under the dubbing.

Every lake I fish, I usually catch >100 big bluegills every time I go out!

This is going to be a banner year for sunfish for me!
