knots in tippet

the other day i was fishing and i kept getting knots in my tippet. i wouldn't really call them wind knots and my loops were tailing, it was like my fly was twisting while false casting making the tippet twist up into a ball. i would stop and straighten it out only to have the same thing happen again. why is this happening and how do i prevent it? thanks

Re: knots in tippet

Jack,

Usually this happens when you have a fairly fine tippet and a fly that has large wings or something else about the construction that makes it (the fly) spin on the end of the leader like a propeller. If they are not actual knots but just twisted leader tippets change either to a larger tippet or to a smaller more wind resistant fly.
