Default First LMB on new 8wt rod

Had the day off from work today so I loaded the tube and headed to a local pond in hopes for some LMB. I arrived at about 3pm for the afternoon bite. It was a slow and long afternoon on the water. I was unable to coax any of the bucket mouths with my offerings that inhabit this pond until later in the evening. Throughout the day I caught several small bass in the 3 inch class and a few decent bluegills on a dirtybird size 14. I also had a grab on my EP Bluegill but the hook did not set. Somehow the lake staff must have forgot that I was out on the lake and didn't bother give notice that the lake was closing. I was able to fish until 8:30pm. Fine by me I was hoping for some LMB action after dusk anyhow. I wanted give my mouse fly a go. But as I kicked back to the dock feeling a bit defeated at 8:10pm I noticed the surface of he water by the docks had erupted with baitfish with some splashy takes by LMB and crappie. I tied on an olive zonker and began stripping it through the boils when LMB took the fly. After several splashy arial displays he was in the net. :bananadance: I snapped some pics and called it a night.

Thumbs up Re: First LMB on new 8wt rod

WOW! That's a great largemouth, and an awesome way to break in the new rod. Congratulations, and thanks for posting the pics.

Where in So Cal are you?
