Default The Addiction Continues

Christmas 2013 I walked the river and noticed a carp here and there coming up out of the water.
The water is lined with trees and dead branches which I have removed several.
I can't see anything in there, but I know they are there, so I am using a 5' furled mono leader and about 30" of tippet (8lb because of the debris and current) I have a 6" tag also off the ring of the leader. I tied a #12 Green Weenie there and my Softhackle Yellow Glow Bug on the 30" end.
I am just casting this out with a medium Thingamabobber next to the ring on the Furled Leader and letting it drift in the current quite a ways down river. Not fast and furious, but productive.

This one flipped at the wrong moment, but you can see the Thingamabobber by its mouth. Oh and this one took a floating Black Gurgler

Joni,

Wonderful pix! and a wonderful report!

I never thought about a strike indicator for carp? but it makes a lot of sense.

Another week of this horrible polar vortex ...... and things will restart here in PA! Thank God!

Nice! I used to indicator fish for carp in small rivers in MN. Don't have the right situation out here but a good dead drift was deadly. Clean looking fish!

Great looking fish and a nice report. I targeted Carp in the U.K. but only on lakes. They can be great top of the water action when they are basking in the sun. I used a "dog biscuit" fly. Not sure if you guys are familiar with it, basically spun deer hair. Worked extremely well.

My "addiction" is almost the same, but even though I see a lot of carp in my local river, the abundant channel catfish will take my flies first.

A 8 wt in a summer evening with a big white dry fly ....... priceless!

I know these are summer pix? (your pix are Christmas) but everything is insanely frozen here in PA!

For those not that may not know, we here in Utah are denied access. We are allowed to float rives through landowners property, but cannot touch bottom and some land owners can put fences across. Our senate prefers the $ of these land owns over the mass number of people it unconstitutionally effects.
So, the rivers here that are accessible get pretty popular.
The Jordan River flows through several cities. There can be Trout in there, along with Cat, crappie, Gold Fish and closer to Utah Lake Walleye and other species.
This river gets less traffic and easy to find a spot anytime.
