I FINALLY hooked into a carp!! I was sight fishing a small school of them, and casted probably 35 times with various flies... Then I decided to tie on a royal humpy (I think??) and casted to the biggest carp at the back of the school.... And he took!!

It was a 25 minute fight!! I was stupid and using my $400 5wt which I swear was going to snap a few times..., and sadly he eventually ripped the hook out. It almost made me cry!! Moral of the story: use a rod with some backbone when fishing for carp!! Now I know why these Koreans use 15' deep sea rods on these animals!

Anyway I got bored halfway through him flexing my rod as managed to snap this pic a few minutes before he got away

I went to River Fly Shop today in Yongsan and talked to the owner

He uses a ball of styrofoam slipped inside a piece of tan pantyhose tied in a ball to a curved hook as a fly!! That's so weird but definitely effective for him. Anyone have a carp pattern as weird as this???

Joni uses a little ball of yellow chenille with a white soft hackle. I find that to be kinda weird. I am guessing the carp take it as an egg of some sort. Hey! whatever works.

What this guy was describing resembled an egg to me too... But he said they tend to ignore egg patterns! Haha idk I will have to try them and see

This is what he tied for me~Click the image to open in full size.

Wow that's him alright! Small world kinda

He seems like a great guy and he talked with me for a good 45 minutes about where to find the many species available here in Korea.

Would've been longer but my fiancÚ was with me haha
