Default Neches Sand Bass

I'm open as to where. I pass ove the Hwy 31 bridge at Chandler quite often. When the bass are running, that place is packed and it looks too brushy to cast a fly. I have a small boat where I can possibly get out of the crowds. I just do't know much about that river.

There is a launch ramp at Hwy. 31 right where the Neches crosses it near Chandler. If you launch and go to the right you are heading towards Lake Palestine and there are a lot of areas within 1 mile of the launch ramp that are fly fishable from a boat.

If you go to the left after you launch, you have to go a pretty good distance before you can fly fish without fighting the trees. But up that way is where all the sand bass are.

There is a place below the dam on Palestine that I know one fly fisherman goes to, don't know whether sand bass come that far from the next lake or not. He usually fishes at other times of the year, and have never heard him say whether they get that far up or not. I agree, when they start up from Palestine, you can't find room on the river on the east side of Chandler. Also, lots of folks do work the west side. Saw a few cars there a week or so ago.
